The Harriman Building

 

Working with a group of local investors, we aimed to develop a substantial, viable commercial building in downtown Madras.  The three-story 15,000 sf mixed-use project consists of two floors of commercial office space over ground floor retail and restaurant space.  The articulated Flemish bond brick façade at the commercial floors continues the vernacular language of historic eastern Oregon small downtowns.  Steel canopies provide pedestrian protection at the sidewalk, which was widened to 12’ to enhance the walk-ability of downtown, while sunshades shield some of the harsh high dessert sun.  The first two floors’ proportions and rhythm are blended into a contemporary detailed third floor metal panel façade.  HEA also designed the ground floor restaurant space.
