Situated on a steeply sloping site in the Macadam Plan District of Southwest Portland, Sophia’s View features a mix of residential flats and townhouse units. Clad in glass, white cement plaster, and a dark metal panel system, the eight apartment flats have commanding 270-degree views. Stepping down the site, seven additional townhouse units afford views past the above units, and beyond, toward the regional landscape. Each unit includes a private outdoor terrace, and parking is discretely tucked beneath each townhouse and in a multi-car garage under the flats building. Townhouse interiors include stair treads made from Douglas fir timbers salvaged from the bottom of the Lower Columbia River. Concrete shear walls are exposed at the interior of the apartment flats, providing thermal mass to stabilize interior temperatures.
